Open Call “ArtRad” / Bicycle Art Competition
Call for entries

ARTRAD/KUNSTCYCLE/KUNSTROWER is a cross-border initiative in the German-Polish twin towns of Frankfurt/Słubice, which explores the connection between bicycles in contemporary art and the everyday use of bicycles as a means of transport, a hobby or a sport. It is organised by the Magistrale Kunsthalle and the Frankfurter Kunstverein and supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt (Oder).
ArtRad is seeking artistic adaptations of bicycles – both physical and conceptual – which will be exhibited from 18 June to 19 July 2026 at the Magistrale Kunsthalle and Galerie B in Frankfurt (Oder).
Artists creating functional bicycle exhibits are also invited to take part in a Grand Tour through the Oderland region. The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, 18 June. Each artist will receive 200 euros towards expenses, and we can also arrange affordable accommodation.
Cycling is a key activity in the Oderland region. Similarly, since their invention, bicycles have inspired artists, from Marcel Duchamp to Freddy Mercury, from Tinguely to Kraftwerk, from Rauschenberg to Pink Floyd, from Christo to Ai Weiwei. This project aims to activate this connection between popular interest and artistic fascination locally in Frankfurt (Oder) and the region through the concept of the ARTRAD/KUNSTCYCLE/KUNSTROWER and the TOUR DER ODERLAND.
Please send a description of up to 250 words and 3 photos or sketches of your ideas to – derspyra@mac.com and palkajohn0@gmail.com
Selected participants will be notified by email by 19 May; detailed exhibition instructions will also be sent out at that time.
*In the previous open call, we offered a prize. This has now been withdrawn. Instead, participating artists will receive an expense allowance.
